Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat, USS Yorktown
This Hellcat served with the United States Navy aboard the Essex (Short Hull) Class Carrier, USS Yorktown (CV-10).  This is how the aircraft would have appeared during September 1943.
The Yorktown was commissioned on April 15, 1943.  Originally named Bon Homme Richard, the carrier was renamed to honour CV-5, which sank during the Battle of Midway.  In march 1945, she received superficial damage after being hit by a single bomb, but continued in service well after the end of World War II.

This Hellcat served with the United States Navy aboard the Independence Class Light Carrier, USS Princeton (CV-23).  This is how the aircraft appeared in mid-1944.
The Princeton was commissioned on February 25, 1943 and scuttled on October 24, 1944 after the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
