Guadalcanal was a special place, we landed - the heat , all of the humidity and disease. I had Malaria for years afterwards. The Japanese we were fighting a 20th century war with 18th century ideas, we were fighting a 20th century war with WWI ideas and weapons! In retrospect, my time there was a highlight, but I didn’t appreciate the danger - we had no conception, I was 21. We were youngsters: 17, 18 , 19 we had no experience in life.
